Welcome to Wellness

Reflections from Judy Belk, October 1, 2014

I am pleased to announce that Advancing Wellness is here! We are now accepting letters of interest for the next phase of our grants program, which promotes equity through advocacy and access. On behalf of the Board and staff of Cal Wellness, thank you for your patience.  We appreciate your understanding as we took some time to undertake our strategic planning process.

Along with the launch of our latest grantmaking chapter is the debut of our redesigned website and its new online application system – the Cal Wellness Grants Portal.  The website is designed to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the grants program; details about each new portfolio and health issue to be addressed; instructions on how to apply; and useful news, resources and information.

As we launch this program, we are doing our best to be accessible to all of our community partners. To introduce Advancing Wellness, members of our Cal Wellness team will be out at Meet the Grantmaker events throughout the state, and I will be joining our team at two, one-hour webinars on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 10 a.m. and on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10 a.m. To sign up for the webinars, click on one or both of the following dates: October 7 & October 9.

We value learning from your feedback. We are committed to customer service and encourage you to share your thoughts on our grantmaking and experiences using our new online tools.

At Cal Wellness, we realize that the pursuit of our mission to improve the health of the people of California is dependent on those of you serving in communities throughout the state.  We thank you for your efforts and look forward to working with all our community partners in advancing wellness for all Californians. Stay well.

Our Guiding Principles

Guided by our mission, we pursue the following goals through our grantmaking:

  • To address the particular health needs of traditionally underserved populations, including low-income individuals, people of color, youth and residents of rural areas.
  • To support and strengthen nonprofit organizations that seek to improve the health of underserved populations.
  • To recognize and encourage leaders who are working to increase health and wellness within their communities.
  • To inform policymakers and opinion leaders about important wellness and health care issues.

The mission of The California Wellness Foundation is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention.
