The California Wellness Foundation Awards Nearly $6.3 Million in Recent Grants

Woodland Hills (CA) – The California Wellness Foundation announced its awards of nearly $6.3 million in grants made during the fourth quarter of 2016. A total of 33 grants were approved to organizations focused on advancing wellness in California.

A number of these grants will help address some of the most urgent issues facing California as we navigate the changing social and political landscape in our state and across the nation in the coming years. Highlights include grants to ensure access to health coverage for immigrant communities, to support fiscal and policy analysis and public education to inform health-related policy and budget decisions, to strengthen community clinics, and to advance social justice campaigns and direct-services work aimed at improving race relations and preventing violence in communities. The complete list can be found here.

The California Wellness Foundation is celebrating 25 years as a private independent foundation with a mission to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention. Since its founding in 1992, Cal Wellness has awarded 8,531 grants totaling more than $960 million.

The Foundation’s Advancing Wellness grants program is designed to promote equity through advocacy and access. The grantmaking focuses on three interconnected portfolios: Bridging the Gaps in Access and Quality Care; Promoting Healthy and Safe Neighborhoods; and Expanding Education and Employment Pathways. The program also includes the Opportunity Fund to support innovation in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.
