Latino Leaders And Advocates Unite To Unleash Political Power

AG Becerra, Pro Tem De Leon Join 350 Latino Leaders Organizing For Action

Sacramento, Calif., May 16, 2017: During this critical moment for immigrant communities, the Latino Community Foundation (LCF) is hosting a day of action for 350 community leaders, advocates, and elected officials to demand bold action to secure the future of Latinos in California. Leaders will march together to the Capitol where key meetings will be held to advance an agenda that prioritizes Latinos in CA.

“Latinos are a powerful force,” says Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, CEO of LCF, “and we will do more than resist and protect our communities. We will unleash our political power and set a policy agenda that creates economic opportunities for our youth and families.”

“The people of California have the grit, guts, and ganas to keep our economy and our policies leaning forward. When we empower hardworking Californians, the sky’s the limit for our state and our country,” declares Attorney General Xavier Becerra, “As the 33rd Attorney General of the State of California, I want everyone who’s working hard and playing by the rules to know that I’ve got your back.”

With less than 540 days before the 2018 election, LCF will focus on mobilizing 7 million Latino eligible voters, especially millennials, in key local elections. With record numbers of registered Latino voters, the organizers of the event are working to build on the 7% increase in Latino voter turnout in CA from November 2016. The summit and legislative visits will also focus on the new economy. There will be 24 million jobs created by 2020. Latinos are ready to take on leadership positions and advance the state forward. They are the backbone of our democracy and economy of California. Policies need to be in place to ensure Latinos benefit from the new economy.
