Los Angeles Grantees

We want to make it easier for folks across the state to engage, connect and see us at work.

We're Celebrating 25 Years, and We’ve Moved to Downtown LA

We’ve moved our headquarters from Woodland Hills, our home for 25 years, to downtown Los Angeles. Why? We want to make it easier for folks across the state to engage, connect and see us at work.

Since our founding in 1992, our work has focused on grantmaking to improve the health and wellness of underserved communities across California. Grantmaking is critical. But, considering the times, it's not enough.

The focus of our work as a health funder has not changed. But our grantees have told us they want more from us — they want us to raise our voices to help further progress on the issues that we’re funding. We’ve heard them, and that’s why we’re raising our voice, expressing our values, and making mission-related investments to leverage all of our resources to have greater impact in advancing and sustaining health and wellness for Californians.

Over the coming months, we'll share stories that honor the people who got us here, and share the “Aha!” moments that both changed and inspired us as grantmakers. We’ll also share our vision for our future, and the work that we will do with you, as we step into the next 25 years.

Our Guiding Principles

Guided by our mission, we pursue the following goals through our grantmaking:

  • To address the particular health needs of traditionally underserved populations, including low-income individuals, people of color, youth and residents of rural areas.
  • To support and strengthen nonprofit organizations that seek to improve the health of underserved populations.
  • To recognize and encourage leaders who are working to increase health and wellness within their communities.
  • To inform policymakers and opinion leaders about important wellness and health care issues.

Mission

The mission of The California Wellness Foundation is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention.
