The Advancing Wellness Poll

We reached out to Californians to hear how their health is impacted by where they live. The poll explored factors like safety, access to quality health care, jobs, education and more. We also partnered with Zócalo Public Square to share the stories behind the data and lift up community voices from across the state.

Meet Ernest J. Wilson III, Cal Wellness’ New Board Member

Cal Wellness’ Board of Directors recently elected a new member, Ernest J. Wilson III, who is dean of the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, a professor of political science, and a faculty fellow at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy. Ernest J. Wilson III Introduces “Third Space”

At USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, our new Board member, Ernest J. Wilson III, heads Annenberg’s Third Space, an initiative that helps create a talent pool of next-generation leaders who will shape the future of health care, media, communications, entertainment and business. New Board Chair and Vice Chair Take Helm at Cal Wellness

The California Wellness Foundation appointed Elizabeth M. Gomez as chair and M. Isabel Becerra as vice chair of its Board of Directors. Gomez is the executive director of Sober College LLC, a private drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility for young adults. A member of Cal Wellness’ Board since 2005, Gomez also served as Board chair from January 2009 to December 2010.

Becerra is the chief executive officer of the Coalition of Orange County Community Health Centers, a consortium of safety net partners providing quality health care services for underserved communities. Meet Cal Wellness’ Incoming Board Members

On November 24, 2014, Cal Wellness announced the appointments of Joseph M. Lumarda, senior vice president and investment counselor of Capital Group Private Client Services in Los Angeles, and Debra Nakatomi, president of Nakatomi & Associates in Santa Monica, to Cal Wellness’ Board of Directors. Elected at the September 2014 Board meeting, they will commence their service on January 1, 2015.




Advancing Wellness Webinar

Our October 7, 2014 webinar introduces the Advancing Wellness grants program. During the presentation, we introduce the four portfolios that make up Advancing Wellness and provide an overview of our streamlined process for submitting requests for funding on CalWellness.org. You'll hear from our President and CEO Judy Belk, Vice President of Programs Fatima Angeles and Director of Grants Management Amy Scop.
