Looking Back on 2020, and Ahead to 2021

Infographic by Piper Murakami

We will never forget 2020. In the midst of a global pandemic, the events of the year made it clear that racism and structural inequities permeate every institution and system in our nation, resulting in disproportionate illness and death for people of color.

To meet the moment, we challenged ourselves to go above and beyond our usual grantmaking in 2020, giving $52 million total in grants and program related investments, up from $34.5 million in 2019.  Yet we know that our giving alone is not enough. Therefore, we sought to be a leader, and inspire peer foundations to stretch as well, because addressing racism and structural inequities requires each and every one of us.

And we know that we must continue to speak out as a thought leader, take action and support others to do the same. We'll continue to advance equity in our grantmaking, and raise our voice.
